On October 4, 1849 in Baltimore, Poe's second cousin NEILSON POE learned that Edgar had been admitted to Washington College Hospital. Poe had been in a rabid state of delirium. "As soon as I heard that he was at the college, I went over, but his physicians did not think it advisable that I should see him, as he was very excitable -- The next day (Oct. 5) I called and sent him changes of linen and c. And was gratified to learn that he was much better."
